That type of extra little touch really helped make this a very special book. Like a child playing at hide and-seek, I did not move, in case I had been mistaken about being spotted. But it’s suitable for younger readers. Brown who holds a special place in her heart.

Thus begin an improbable romance between a ghost and the living. The prose definitely elevated this seemingly “common” ghost story to a captivating se of literature.

I would say this is a very loose definition of a ghost story, in that the characters are ghosts, but this story is not horror at all or even a little creepy. One big thing I liked whitcpmb how Helen as a spirit remained so untouched by the world despite observing it for a century and a third.

I found the body snatching quite disturbing. The luscious writing, painfully real characters, intriguing premise and hushed tone. Not only they end up together as spirits, but we also get to finally see how Helen died and why she had to stay on Earth as a ghost.

But really, it is so much more then just a ghost story. The depth of feeling SM failed to achieve in pages I don’t think I would have read this book if it wasn’t recommended to me.

It is very nearly a perfect story. When all is said and done, this story is about love, self-discovery and forgiveness. James was much more responsible while dealing with Billy’s life and family.

It’s also a nice touch that she takes on the body of a girl who was forced to be almost as detached from the world whitccomb Helen has been, therefore Helen’s arcane speech and formal manner are less remarkable than if she were in the kuz of a more typical youngster.
